What about Bob?
October 6, 2006 No CommentsOur society pushes the idea that the wedding is all about the bride. It is her day, we are told. Nearly everything about the wedding is catered to the bride so that the whole wedding experience becomes nauseatingly pink with lace and flowers and various other frills.
The groom is apparently just extra baggage that needs to be lugged through the wedding experience — submission through torture??
We challenge you to rethink your ideas about the wedding day. Try viewing it as “OUR” wedding day instead of “YOUR” or “MY” wedding day. What point would there be to getting married without a groom? Isn’t unity the main point of the wedding? Try unifying your vision of an ideal wedding.
Do you want your future husband to be more involved in the wedding planning? If not, you need to seriously reevaluate your perspective on the wedding day. Try sharing.
“But my fiance is not interested in the wedding planning,” someone complains.
Well, if you were a guy, would you be interested in something that has been pounded into his brain as being a girly enterprise? Try sharing with him that you envision a wedding that reflects both of your genders and personalities — but you had better mean it because that means he gets to share his ideas and you two need to work together to bring a combination of your ideas together (**gasp** did they say “work together” like we can get along or something?!?). He is taking a risk by sharing in the wedding planning experience and we hope you make it worthwhile for him — i.e.: Don’t trash his ideas!
Guys, it goes both ways, if you want to have a more balanced, not-so-frilly, more fun wedding then you need to be willing to shoulder some of the wedding planning. The wedding will reflect the planner. If you both plan the wedding it will reflect you both. If you are not willing to help plan, then you pay the price of having to wear a pink tuxedo.
So tell us, how are you and your sweetheart working together to make your wedding a celebration of your union in marriage?
