Quirks, Interests, and Bodily Functions
October 2, 2006 No CommentsCan you and your lover fully accept one another? Do you love one another – warts and all?
Are you able to appreciate your sweetheart’s little quirks, personal interests, and bodily functions?
If you cannot, you aren’t alone. Many couples cannot fully accept or appreciate one another. But wouldn’t it be better if you could?
Example: We know a friend whose wife expects him to not fart. Sure if any of us had the choice we would choose not to fart (unless we were in junior high)… but we don’t have the choice! She holds him to an impossible standard which places unnecessary emotional strain on their relationship.
Do your life partner a big favor and let them be themselves and appreciate them for who they are. If there is something they do that is dangerous to you or themselves or others, then out of your love for them you should want that behavior to change — not so you can accept and love them but because you accept and love them.
But most of what we pick on our partners for is so insignificant in the big scheme of things. Does it really matter when all is said and done if the toilet paper rolls over or under the roll? Maybe you should try doing it his or her way!
So, do you have anything that bugs you about your fiance or fiancee? Sometimes it helps to just vent. Go ahead and vent some. This is a safe place to share your comments.
